Home-based workers are suffering due to high oil prices, shortage of gas and increased electricity bills. Due to the war situation in the Middle East, people have to spend time in long queues for fuel. Shortage of fuel and gas have led to home-based workers having to limit their productions. 

It is not easy to increase the prices of products to keep pace with the fuel price increase. Customers are not ready to buy products for higher prices. INDECOS is ready to provide training to select home-based workers around how they can change their methodology to use minimum fuel, gas or electricity.    

HomeNet South Asia (HNSA) recently organised an engaging regional webinar titled ‘Access to Markets’ on 29 April 2025, bringing together affiliate organisations from all across South Asia to discuss one of the most pressing challenges faced by home-based workers (HBWs): access to markets. Moderated by Ms. Monica Raina, the session was a reflection on some of the biggest obstacles and opportunities under this topic. 

The terms ‘invisible’ or ‘hidden’ are often used when referring to women homeworkers in garment and footwear supply chains. Their work is often undervalued and remains unseen by the retailers and brands they produce for. Because of the hidden nature of their work, they are vulnerable. And face issues like, unfair pay, irregular work, poor working conditions, lack of worker rights, human rights abuse, violence and harassment by contractors, and occupational health and safety risks.
